Kastania Extra Virgin Olive Oil Koroneiki Blend
Kastania Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made from a blend of roughly 80 percent Koroneiki olives and 20 percent Athinolyia olives. Both varieties are highly valued for their flavor and nutritional content. Our olive oil is completely organic: there are no fertilizers, pesticides or other chemicals used during its cultivation or during production.
Our oil has a free acidity content of less than 0.35 percent, which is far below the cutoff needed to qualify as extra virgin. This low acidity assures that our oil will retain its fresh and distinctive flavor for several years after the harvest. Try it, and see for yourself why we are so proud of our oil!
Cold Extraction and Nutrition
Our oil is produced under a cold extraction process. The olives are first washed in mountain spring water, and then they are crushed and mixed into a paste. The oil is then extracted at cold temperatures. This process ensures that the quality and nutritional content of our oil is as high as possible, though it also means we get relatively low quantities of oil from our olives.
Truly Extra Virgin
Kastania Olive Oil consists of 100% Extra Virgin Greek Olive Oil. We have applied for Greek certification that our olives are raised using organic techniques.
An excellent and authoritative book about today's olive oil is Tom Mueller's book Extra Virginity: The Sublime and Scandalous World of Olive Oil. In it, Mueller investigates what is commonly found on supermarket shelves and even in boutique specialty stores and concludes:
